About Us
Laura Smith, born in Costa Rica, is married and has two young children. She has been teaching Spanish to both adults and children for over 10 years, in both the UK and the USA. She ran her own Spanish Club in the USA and is now working in the UK using the same techniques.
Olé Chicos Spanish Club is an after school Spanish Club for children aged from 5 to 13 years. There is a choice of 8 time slots throughout the week, all held on the first floor of the Ilchester Village Community Centre.
How will your child absorb the language?
At Olé Chicos Spanish Club children will learn as they learn best: through playing games, e.g. bingo and memory games; with hands on activities, e.g. ‘Guess Who’; by improvising and acting everyday situations, e.g. charades and ‘Simon Says’; and by singing – in a relaxed, fun and challenging setting. Music triggers memory, and songs and rhymes are an integral part of the language process.
Children will be in groups of not more than 10, with the approach centred on enabling the children to have fun, whilst still learning!
They will learn Spanish vocabulary and grammar as part of these interactive activities. The course material is structured to allow children to learn both effectively and effortlessly. Using her own ideas for activities which she has developed over the years, children will absorb the vocabulary of the language as naturally as they learned their mother tongue. Over a short period of time, parents will see their child enjoyably acquire the basics of a new language. The children will rapidly build vocabulary and sentence construction, develop good communication skills, whilst having fun in a small group setting.
Forthcoming Changes in Language Teaching in UK Primary Schools
Olé Chicos Spanish Club offers Spanish courses for the age group of school children who, in the next few years, will see the introduction of the recently announced Government initiative to strengthen the teaching of European languages in British schools.
By the end of 2011, all Primary School children will be taught one of the major European Languages. Children attending Olé Chicos Spanish Club will have a great head start in learning Spanish, as this Government policy is introduced in schools across the country. |
